Imagine how it would be if you could zoom from Earth to the
furthest galaxy in just one second. Well, Microsoft has thought of this and has
come up with a software application that allows everyone to explore space. The
virtual telescope, dubbed WorldWide Telescope, puts together information
available from the best known space centers in the world in a collection of 12
terabytes of pictures and data.
Similar to a video game, the software can be downloaded from
www.worldwidetelescope.org, and
allows the user to travel through galaxies while rendering images of space dust
and other...

A team of fertility researchers from Australia and Greece has
discovered a way of testing IVF embryos using DNA fingerprinting, a process that
could one day revolutionize fertility treatment, leading to successful
pregnancy.
When couples decide to attend a fertility clinic for IVF,
doctors cannot tell them for sure which embryos are likely to develop into
successful pregnancies from those that fail to even attach themselves in the
womb.
Therefore, they often opt to have more than one embryo
implanted, which could increase the chances for pregnancy, but, on the...

Three years after the Fish and
Wildlife Services was asked to review the situation of the polar bears, and one
federal deadline later, the Interior Department finally did something that
should have been done a long time ago: list the polar bears as threatened under
the Endangered Species Act. The decision was announced on Wednesday, when the
agency was forced to meet the deadline set at the end of April.
The Fish and Wildlife Service
took all the time in the world to make a decision, repeatedly failing to meet
deadlines, and apparently ignoring all requests to do something before it...

After a journey that took more
than 10 months to complete, NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander prepares to begin a
three-month mission on the Red Planet. The Mars Lander is set to enter the Martian
atmosphere on May 25, at the speed of 13,000 mph, which will be reduced to 5
mph in just 7 minutes, the time scientists said it will take Phoenix to reach
the surface of the planet. The landing is scheduled to take place at
approximately 7:53 p.m. EDT.
The mission was launched on
August 4, 2007 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, with a landing
site established at 68 degrees north...

The US
space agency NASa announced the discovery of the most recent supernova in our
galaxy. The supernova has been discovered by tracking the rapid expansion of
its remains, the supernova remnant G1.9+0.3
According to the astronomers, the supernova explosion
occurred about 140 years ago, which makes it the most recent supernova in the
Milky Way as measured in Earth's time frame.
The tracking of this object began in 1985, when astronomers,
led by Green, used the Very Large Array to identify the remnant of a supernova
explosion near the center of our galaxy.
Supernova...
