Beijing - Liu Xiang withdrew from the Olympic 110 metres hurdles race at the Beijing Olympics with an Achilles tendon injury in a massive blow for host China on Monday.
China's athletics team coach Feng Shouyong told a news conference that the recurring injury in his right leg appeared again on Saturday and that Liu was in massive pain on Monday ahead of the race.

Beijing - Chen Yibing and He Kexin continued China's strong showing in the gymnastics disciplines with victories in the men's rings and women's uneven bars Monday while Poland's Leszek Blanik took gold in the men's vault.
World champion Chen proved too strong for compatriot and newly- crowned all-around Olympic champion Yang Wei in his speciality rings discipline at the National indoor stadium, securing gold with a total of 16.6000 for his routine.

Beijing - The golden world record glamour of Yelena Isinbayeva brought a smile back to Chinese faces on Monday, just hours after local icon Liu Xiang limped out of the Beijing Games with an Achilles tendon injury.
Isinbayeva was the star on a night and thrilled the crowd when she claimed her 24th career world record in the pole vault with 5.05m.
