US Navy Electromagnetic Railgun Test

In a test conducted on Ferbruary 1 the US Navy test fired the world's most powerful electromagnetic railgun.

The electromagnetic railgun uses electricity instead of chemical propellants or rocket motors electricity to launch projectiles.

According to the Office of Naval Research, when fully operational, the electromagnetic railgun (also known as EMRG) will deliver hypervelocity projectiles at Mach 5 on impact in support of Marines and ground forces and it will strike strike within 5 meters of a pinpointed target from distances in excess of 200 nautical miles.
