U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator John Holmes visits Gaza. Holmes toured areas of destruction and spoke to Palestinian residents in order to assess the damage and the reconstruction process. The Israeli offensive killed some 1,300 Palestinians and left thousands homeless. Ten Israeli soldiers and three civilians were killed in the conflict. The total cost of reconstruction in the impoverished area is estimated at $2 billion.
