Ten Turkish climbers have been killed after being caught in an avalanche in northeast Turkey.
The hikers were part of a seventeen-strong hiking party that was trekking in the Zigana mountain, a small ski resort near the Black Sea Coast, when an avalanche swept 12 of the group down the mountain. Two injured survivors are being treated in hospital. A Turkish minister described the tragedy as "a great loss." Speculating about the cause of the avalanche, witnesses told Turkish television they heard a couple of gunshots before it happened.Helen Long reports.
