Pakistan's new president declares the country off-limits to foreign powers chasing militants and vows to root out 'terrorism and extremism'. Zardari told a joint sitting of parliament that his government "will not tolerate any infringement of its sovereignty or territory in the name of the fight against militancy". It was a toughly-worded message meant to be heard in Washington. It follows American-led missile attacks from bases in Afghanistan on alleged militants linked to al Qaeda in Pakistan's northwestern tribal areas.
