Tibetan exiles hurl shoes at Chinese President Hu Jintao's effigy as a mark of protest against the alleged Chinese atrocities against Tibetans in Lhasa. For the Tibetan exiles, Losar or the New Year celebrations are muted and subdued this year as they mourn for the loss of those killed inside Lhasa by the Chinese. The president of the students organisation which organised the protest said the group had been inspired by the Iraqi television journalist who hurled shoes at former US President George Bush. Andrew Potter reports.
