New technology is giving scientists and wildlife fans the chance to observe one of Lake Baikal's shyest inhabitants, the 'nerpa' seal as it is known locally. In order to make these mysterious and rarely-seen creatures more accessible to scientists and nature-lovers without disturbing them, Irkutsk's 'Baikal Museum' has launched a unusual project - to put seals on the web in real time.Penny Tweedie, Reuters.SOUNDBITE: Vladimir Vygodsky, scientist from Baikal Museum in Irkutsk, saying: (Russian):"It is our second expedition to the island Dolgyi, one of the Ushkaniy islands. The first time we came here to do the construction work, like make foundation for metal constructions. Today we are already building metal constructions to put antennae, batteries and video cameras on them."
