Police in Covina, California now say the recently-divorced man who carried out a Christmas Eve party massacre had plotted to flee to Canada. But the attacker's plans were foiled when he was badly burned in the inferno he started after his shooting spree at the house of his former in-laws. In a final act of destruction - discovered by police after Bruce Jeffrey Pardo shot himself dead - his rental car was found with the remnants of the Santa suit rigged to a homemade bomb. It blew up as it was being defused but no one was injured. Susan Flory reports.
