In Bangkok, two people were killed and almost 400 people injured after anti-government protesters clashed with police on Tuesday. The demonstrators, members of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), hoped to disrupt Parliament's opening session and the speech of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat. After a day of street violence, the government's chief negotiator with PAD - Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh - resigned when police failed to exercise the restraint he requested. Sarah Irwin reports.
