As expected after weeks of squabbling, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is pulling his party out of the governing alliance. Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was the junior partner in the alliance, led by the Pakistan People's Party. Both were rivals in the 1990s but joined forces after winning an overwhelming victory over former President Musharraf's ruling party in February's parliamentary vote.Susan Flory reports.SOUNDBITE: Nawaz Sharif, former Pakistan Prime Minister, saying, (English) "We joined the coalition with full sincerity and commitment to steer Pakistan towards full restoration of democracy, independence of judiciary and constitutional governance. Unfortunately, all promises made with us were not honoured."
