Obama seeks Republican support

President Barack Obama tried to placate Republicans in Congress who insist his $825 billion plan for reviving the U.S. economy should include bigger tax cuts. Although President Obama does not need broad Republican support, because of large Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, the White House would still like to get some Republican defections-- in order to put the stamp of bi-partisanship on the massive spending bill.
