EU monitors confirm no gas is running from Russia to Europe via Ukraine as European Union pushes for a resolution and residents without gas fight the cold.
Slovakia, Bulgaria and Moldova are among the countries hardest hit by the gas crisis. Russia Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko will meet in Moscow on Saturday (January 17) to try and resolve the dispute.
The International Energy Agency said Russia has lost its status as a reliable gas supplier to Europe.
