After a golden streak since 2002, which saw Macau transformed from a sleepy former Portuguese colonial backwater into a Las Vegas-style gambling paradise, Macau's fortunes may be about to change. The Las Vegas Sands' decision to suspend construction on new projects in Macau and fire 11,000 construction workers shocked many and raised fears of grim days ahead. James Pomfret reports.
