Hindu worshippers pay their final respects to elephant God as birth anniversary festivities draw to a close
Devotees in India's western Mumbai bid farewell to the biggest idol of elephant headed Hindu God, of the 'Lalbagh ka Raja' temple on Monday (September 15).The festival marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha who signifies good omens and prosperity in the Hindu faith. Idols are brought out for immersion along Mumbai's coast and goes on until the early hours of the morning when larger deities take part. During this period, devotees install Lord Ganesha statuettes in their homes and sing hymns to celebrate the arrival of their God. Ganesha is worshipped at the beginning of all auspicious occasions with the festival being one of the most popular in the western India.
