Kenyans in Barack Obama's ancestral homeland danced with joy as the election of America's first black president sparked hope that he would tackle poverty and disease in Africa.
Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki called Obama's election a 'momentous day' not only in the history of America, but also for Kenya. In Obama's late father's village, where many of the 44th U.S. president's family still live, relatives chanted "We're going to the White House." Many Africans ferevently hope Obama's victory will mean more U.S. support for the world's poorest continent.
