Parliamentary factions in Israel have been holding talks with President Shimon Peres after ruling party leader Tzipi Livni dropped efforts to form a government.
Livni took over Kadima from the scandal-hit Prime Minister Ehud Olmert last month. On Sunday she revealed that her efforts to form a new coalition government had failed and that she would seek an early ballot. President Peres, in accordance with legal procedures, held intensive consultations with parliament factions before announcing an early ballot.Sonia Legg reports.
