The poorest nation in the Americas is hit by hurricanes and food crisis Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, is still recovering from four tropical storms and hurricanes that killed more than 800 people and destroyed 60 percent of its crops in August and September. Deborah Lutterbeck reports. SOUNDBITES: Mother of Six in Haiti, saying (Creole): "I am living with six children who have no father. I am the one that is doing whatever it takes to feed the kids. So it's hard to help them. I had to give away four of them and keep only two with me. I have lots of neighbors around the neighborhood that are struggling with the same conditions we are to survive.
