With a potential impact on profitability, some farmers seizing on the diversity model as the way ahead, often opening their land for tourism, recreation and educational purposes. One such farm in the United Kingdom, Ashlyns Organic Farm, runs a number of successful businesses including a restaurant, farm shop and a catering service for schools.
As Hayley Platt reports, they are also taking part in an initiative to encourage a new generation to take on the challenge of managing farm resources.
