A woman has died and half a million people have been ordered to leave their homes after heavy rains brought widespread flooding to central Japan. Many people fled their homes in boats as water reached their waists and cars sank in muddy water. A 76-year-old woman was found dead in her flooded home in Okazaki, 230 kilometres (143 miles) west of Tokyo. Authorities told 140,000 households in Okazaki and around 360,000 households in nearby Nagoya to leave their homes. Sonia Legg reports.
