Attacks on Chinese cargo vessels by pirates have been a regular occurrence for years, especially along the Strait of Malacca near Singapore, a crucial shipping route for imports and exports to and from China. But as China's involvement with Africa grows, the threat to Chinese vessels by pirates has expanded outside of Asia.
