Apple has announced that its online media store, iTunes will
add films to its offer for Canadians and Brits. The movies will be available
for rental or purchase, and will be priced according to how recent they are.
Library movies will sell for CAN$9.99 or £6.99 and rent for CAN$3.99 or £2.49,
while new titles will go for CAN$19.99 or £10.99 to purchase and CAN$4.99 or
£3.49 to rent. If users are into watching HD versions of the films, they will
have to scrap about one pound or one Canadian dollar more.
Users will be able to watch the movies on Mac computers or
laptops, as well as on iPods, or iPhones. If the person who bought them also
has an Apple TV, he or she will be able to stream the content to the living
room TV as well.
Rented movies will remain on the computer for a month after
they have been downloaded, or for 48 hours after they have been played for the
first time. It is required to have iTunes 7.6.2 in order to purchase or rent
the films.
As far as the selection is concerned, Apple comes with over
700 titles. Some of the studios the films are made by are Paramount, Disney, Fox or MGM, and the titles
include all kinds of movies, from classics like ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s
Nest’ to ‘I Am Legend’ or ‘Into the Wild.’
Apple said it will try to add more titles to its collection
and that it is doing everything possible to make the movies available for
download as soon as they are released on DVD.
