If you are so lucky to be in Paris these days, maybe you should consider
buying an iPhone. Apple’s ultimate gadget will hit Orange’s store shelves Wednesday at 6:30 PM
local hour.
Buying an iPhone from France
could be a real deal, as Orange, the mobile arm
of France Telecom, said that the unlocked version of Apple’s cell phone will
sell for only 649 euros, which is much cheaper than the 999 euros requested by Germany’s
T-Mobile.
Those who are unwilling to spend so much for a phone could
opt in for an iPhone with a two-year subscription plan from Orange, in which case the price is only 399
euros.
Orange
offers its customers monthly contracts varying from 49 euros to 119 euros and all
of them offer visual voicemail - allowing consumers to choose the messages they
listen to - and unlimited access to e-mail and the Web.
In case you don’t need a monthly contract the price of an
iPhone locked in Orange’s
network is 549 euros.
The cost of unlocking the handset will be EUR100 during the
six months following the acquisition of the iPhone, regardless of the package
chosen, Orange
announced.
Although the price tag of iPhone is anything but cheap,
Didier Lombard, head of Orange
parent France Telecom, hopes that the phone glamour will persuade the French to
buy as many as 100,000 units until the end of 2008.
So far Apple has launched the iPhone in Germany and the UK earlier this month but no
official sales data have been released. A T-Mobile official has said though that
the mobile carrier sold 10,000 units in the first day, but according to various
news reports it seems like the iPhone is not a hit in the UK.
