Everyone is waiting for Apple’s
3G iPhone, or at least a date…something… Unfortunately for those waiting, Apple
isn’t planning on breaking the habit: no comment until everything is ready! All
we can do now is speculate on the theme, and all rumors seem to point at a
summer date for the release: how does June this year sound?
Bank of America analyst Scott
Craig said Apple will start the 3G iPhone production this May, when it is
expected to manufacture 3 million units, and reach 11 million units by
September. If this is true, Apple embarks on a really tough mission for the
next generation of iPhones. But if their predictions are correct, the demand
will be high, and the efforts will be worth it.
According to the rumors,
Apple is working on a new set of iPhones, and those iPhones better have 3G or
else all that hard work might go to waste. "Our latest channel checks
point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month
of June after an initial small build in May," Craig said to Reuters.
Apple is expected to unveil the
3G at the developer conference in June, at the same time with the software upgrades.
Of course, company representatives have had nothing to say about the speculations, so
we’ll just have to wait a couple of months for the confirmation. But taking all
things into consideration, what better date than June is there?
How badly does Apple need the 3G
release? Pretty bad, analysts say, if they want to reach the 10 million units
sold at the end of 2008. If sales haven’t been as high as expected so far, a 3G
push could put it back in the spotlight. What the company now must take into
consideration is that competition on the smartphone market is high at this
moment, and it’s not going to be easy…will the 3G be enough or do Apple developers have
more in store for us?
