Friday
morning, Apple released their iPhone update called version 2.1, in an attempt
to make amends for the bugs that users reported on the company’s forums, which
included dropped calls, slow performance and shorter than expected battery
life. Nevertheless, Apple seems to have had more up their sleeve when rolling
out the update, since, as it turns out, 2.1 also brings some new features to
the table.
Consequently,
the iPod app on the device now shows, underneath the song’s title, the album
and the artist as well. Also, when browsing Podcast or videos, the iPhone
displays a blue half-moon next to the videos that have been started, but not
finished, which comes to replace the blue dot that indicated a video had
not been watched or a podcast had yet to be listened to. Moreover, in terms of
episodes, update 2.1 enables users to see the name and the total runtime of the
episode, along with the date they were published.
Furthermore, the Parental Restrictions
tool allows customers to prevent access to the gadget’s camera, while the Passcode
Lock setting now comes with an option to erase all data stored on the iPhone after
ten incorrect passwords have been entered. Other security upgrades include
preventing apps from viewing each other’s information and reducing
susceptibility to DNS cache poisoning.
The most
exciting new feature of the update is the Genius application, which is also
available for iTunes. By analyzing your music library, the Genius can generate
playlists of 25 songs based on the track you have selected. Afterwards, it can be refreshed with new songs of your choice or replaced with one based on a different tune.
