Authorities in Frederick County have announced that a zookeeper had been hospitalized in critical condition after she had been attacked by a male jaguar at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo.
County Animal Control director Harold Domer stated that the woman had been inside the jaguar enclosure on Sunday and that she had failed to secure the area, adding that the 300-pound animal had bitten her several times.
After the incident, she was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
In a statement issued, the zoo informed that at the time of the attacks, two jaguars had been in the enclosure, which had been quarantined after the happening.
Harold Domer is scheduled to meet with the zoo's executive director Richard Hahn on Monday.
The zookeeper’s name has not been made public.
