Italian researchers have reviewed 117 studies based on the participation of 25, 000 patients and have concluded that the most efficient of the new generation antidepressants are Zoloft and Lexapro.
Among the drugs that were reviewed in the studies were bupropion (Wellbutrin/Zyban), citalopram (Celexa), duloxetine (Cymbalta), escitalopram, fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), milnacipran (Savella), mirtazapine (Remeron), paroxetine (Paxil), reboxetine (Edronax/Vestra), sertraline, and venlafaxine (Effexor). The participants in the study suffered from major depression. The results showed that for the best results doctors should prescribe Zoloft and Lexapro, the drugs that proved to be the most efficient.
The drugs that were declared the most efficient stood out through their balance between efficacy and acceptability. Depression is one of the issues today’s world faces and tries to overcome and the treatments that proved to be most useful were therapy and different types of medication.
Still, therapy is considered the best treatment for depression and it’s widely considered to be the first step to be taken when confronted with this condition. Depression is nothing to joke about, currently this condition affecting approximately 120 million people worldwide and it’s the leading cause of suicide.
Scientists have also taken into consideration the costs of the medication and concluded that Sertraline seems to be better than escitalopram because of its lower cost in most countries.
Depression is one of the leading factors in suicide and in these troubled times specialists expect a rise in the number of people suffering from this condition.
