Not just another sex-filled movie by Kevin Smith. The
director’s latest work, entitled „Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” is actually
about love and human relationships, as Smith himself has told Reuters in an
interview.
Scheduled to open this Friday, October 31, in United States theaters, the
movie tells the story of platonic friends and apartment colleagues Zack and
Miri, who overburdened with debts and left with no electricity or running
water, decide to make an amateur porn video to solve their financial problems.
Nevertheless, what is supposed to be just meaningless,
casual sex with the only purpose to bring in some money, turns out to be something close
to an epiphany. It appears that the rolling cameras bring out more than the sexual
animal hunting for pleasure in the two characters, also revealing their true
feelings for each other, their deeply emotional and humane side.
So we have the sex movie and we have the love story, both
meshed into a production that was initially deemed as being pornographic by the
Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The latter rated „Zack and Miri” NC-17,
which means that it is not suited for children under the age of seventeen, but the
Association changed their decision soon after, considering the film's content R-rating
worthy, so people who fall in the aforementioned age category can see the movie
if they are accompanied by an adult.
The lead characters are portrayed by actors Elizabeth Banks
(Miri) and Seth Rogen (Zack), while the production is to be released by The
Weinstein Company, a 2005-founded independent American film studio
