Your Immune System Is Stronger At Night

Medical research is an on-going process, whether the aim is to find cures for cancer and AIDS or a vaccine for malaria. Studies are being conducted as we speak all around the world, in order to establish, for instance, which the best course of treatment for obesity is and how one can best prevent heart diseases.

One of the most recent findings in the medical field concerns the strength of our immune system. According to a recently finalized study, researchers have come to the conclusion that our immune system is the strongest during nighttime, more so than at any other time during the day.

The study on the strength of our immune system was conducted by top researchers from the prominent Stanford University. The purpose of the study was to attempt to delve deeper in the human immune system, to discover under what circumstances it is the most active. At the end of the study, researchers discovered that the immune system was most active during the night, and was thus the strongest in that period of time. The increased strength of your immune system helps you fight off common “enemies” such as bacteria or infections – probably why “lots of rest” is usually recommended in most afflictions.

Apparently, your immune system is the strongest during the night, and the weakest when the sun is up. The study was conducted on a specific immune response which is called phagocytosis oscillates and the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. The scientific explanation accounting for this different activity rate is that during the night, your body goes into the so-called “restoration mode”.
