Serena Williams, title favourite for the French Open competition, cruised for a routine first-round victory today against her American compatriot Ashley Harkleroad. The game, most of which was played in light rain, ended 6 – 2 6 – 1.
Williams had an unfavorable start, losing the first two games, but she managed to turn it around by winning six in a row and ended the match with 12 games out of 13.
The two gave it all during the game’s 76 minutes which was played on the Suzanne Lenglen Court, the secondary tennis court at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
Williams advanced to the second round where she will face French player Mathilde Johansson. Johansson was born on April 28, 1985 in Gothenburg, Sweden and made her WTA Tour debut at the 2005 French Open where she lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round. In 2006 she managed to get to the second round where she was taken out by Russian player Maria Kirilenko.
Serena Jameka Williams, born on September 26, 1981, former World Number One ranked female tennis player, has had so far an amazing career, winning eight Grand Slam singles titles and also an Olympic gold medal in the women’s doubles. At the moment, she is the top ranked American female player and everyone is looking forward to watching her play in the competition.
Hopefully she’ll be able to keep her concentration and game strategy in order to offer us more spactacular plays.
