Looking to address the people’s wish for downloadable content, popular video sharing Web site YouTube decided to introduce the feature. For now, the service will only be available for a few political videos.
The chosen ones are the Weekly Address videos of President elect Barack Obama, which from now on will feature a ’Click to download’ link below their play button. The files will be saved as high-definition videos.
Users have been using for quite some time third party applications to grab their favourite videos from YouTube, and it was only a matter of time before the company considered the feature. Still, there are many aspects that demand attention and careful discussions before generalizing this service would even be considered.
Users will not receive the option to make their videos downloadable and there are no details on the upcoming decisions and regulations.
This new feature might increase the Web site’s appeal, as it is a well known fact that Google is trying out all sorts of angles in order to make YouTube better, bring in ads and stack up on revenue. Even though the traffic generated by the Web site is huge, there do not appear to be sufficient ways of cashing in on its popularity; better said, the company did not choose the best ways of turning the millions of daily visits into profit, and is now looking to make up for lost time.
