YouTube Offers PS3, Wii-Dedicated Channels

YouTube started offering its users a new channel which is built strictly for the browsers of the Wii and PS3 gaming consoles. The new YouTube channel will also be offered in several new widget-enabled TVs, which is a smart move from the Website management.

The move is quite simple and a logical one as well. Considering the fact that there are about 40 million Wii owners worldwide and over 20 million PS3 owners, building channels especially for them was the next logical step. The intent is to offer channels with a user-friendly, intuitive interface for full size screens.

"With enlarged text and simplified navigation, it makes watching YouTube on your TV as easy and intuitive as possible," YouTube explained in a blog post.

Another feature which will make YouTube more TV-friendly is by including an auto-play option which will make it possible for viewers to watch the related videos in a sequence without having toe clicking any button.

YouTube beta on TV is currently available through Sony, PS3 and Nintendo Wii gaming systems in 22 countries and in 12 languages. However, YouTube will surely no stop here with this move.

YouTube’s first step from the office PC to the TV in the living room was made in the summer of 2007 via Apple TV. Other big players such as Hewlett-Packard, Panasonic, TiVo and others soon followed in Apple’s footsteps.

Currently, the only gaming console from the big league which does not have a dedicated YouTube channel is the Xbox 360.
