YouTube is looking to sign a deal with the talent provider Williams Morris Agency, in order to release specially made productions for the popular video-sharing Web site, with the company’s clients. The agency’s top clients include Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Clint Eastwood, Natalie portman and Jackie Chan.
This would represent a great way for the actors to increase their popularity on the Web, and they will also get an ownership stake in the videos. YouTube’s interest is clear, as the new offer would bring even more visitors and attract new contracts for ads.
The financial aspect has always been the biggest issue for YouTube, as it was believed that it holds a huge potential for revenue, and yet so far failed to even come close to the expectations. Its owner Google did not expect to have this much trouble with finding the proper way of cashing in on the Web site’s popularity, as it was believed that the hard part was to promote and make a certain Web page known and constantly visited.
Most of the videos do not include any ads, as there are many boundries placed by privacy and copyright concerns. Compared to the millions of videos hosted for free, the company is making money on just a very small segment - which is surely very frustrating for its officials.
The number of monthly visitors recorded by YouTube constantly reaches 100 million in the United States alone, meaning that the Web site’s popularity is immense and the content widely appreciated.
