The economic crisis has been taking its toll on the United States in more ways than one. One of the most obvious effects is the tumble suffered by the real estate market, which has caused the prices of properties to drop to unprecedented lows.
Another consequence of the economic crises has affected many Americans and the companies they worked for – many businesses have been forced to make serious personnel cuts, leaving thousands without their previously secure jobs and, most importantly, without their health insurance. Cuts have been made on all levels, whether it concerned the janitors or the CEOs.
Another unfortunate effect that involves the younger generation is the monetary-induced disinterest to hire high school and college students.
On other companies, the CEOs have resigned, in order to make room for new blood. Such is the case of Internet giant Yahoo, as co-founder Jerry Yang resigned from his position of CEO on November 17th. However, Yang remains chairman on Yahoo’s board.
On January 13th, Yahoo decided on who they will bring on as the new CEO of the company. Former CEO and current executive chairman of Autodesk, Carol Bartz, has been chosen as the new CEO of Yahoo.
Carol Bartz, aged 60, will replace Jerry Yang as CEO, and also automatically become a member on the board. She is well known for her no-nonsense leading policy, and is famous for increasing Autodesk’s revenues from $300 million to $1.5 billion while she was CEO of said company.
