Xzibit Joins Oliver Stone for "Pinkville"

Rapper Xzibit is pursuing his dreams of an acting career by joining acclaimed director Oliver Stone for “Pinkville.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the rapper and star of MTV’s “Pimp My Ride” show has signed to star alongside Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum and Woody Harrelson in the drama about the 1968 My Lai Massacre.

It was almost four decades ago that more than 500 people, most of these women, children and the elderly, were killed by U.S. soldiers, during the Vietnam War.

United Artists is distributing. Production is set to begin next year. The script has been penned by Mikko Alanne.

Xzibit, whose real name is Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, will reportedly play a soldier who is convinced he carried out his orders in a moral way, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Xzibit is currently shooting “American Inquisition,” with Alfre Woodard, Anthony Mackie, Charles Dutton and Tim Blake Nelson.

Xzibit, 33, has been making appearances in movies since the late 1990s. His credits include the Lee Tamahori-directed “XXX: State of the Union,” starring Ice Cube and Willem Dafoe; “Derailed,” which starred Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston and Vincent Cassel; and “Gridiron Gang,” where he starred alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Xzibit became the host of TV show “Pimp My ride” in 2004. His career as a rapper has been successful; he has sold more than 3 million records, including “Restless,” released in 2000, which sold more than 2 million. His latest studio effort is 2006’s “Full Circle.”

Multiple Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone’s recent work includes “World Trade Center,” released in 2006. The drama, based on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, was generally well received. It stars Nicolas Cage, Maria Bello, and Maggie Gyllenhaal

Stone received an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay in 1978 for “Midnight Express” and two Academy Awards for directing “Platoon,” in 1986, and “Born on the Fourth of July,” in 1989.
