It's a known fact that this year the competition between Xbox 360 and PS3 will grow even bigger, as both Microsoft and Sony revealed new services meant to boost sales and leave old rivals behind. This summer was no exception, as Sony confirmed its long-rumored download service for PS3, and Microsoft revealed during E3 a new partnership with Netflix. The game is on, as holiday season approaches fast – the perfect time to turn consoles and games into another commercial success.
Speaking of games, Microsoft promised to open game-season this fall with a bunch of titles that will make the world of Xbox bigger, broader and more exciting than ever, as the Redmond-based company said.
“From those new to games and eager to jump in, to the hardcore gamer looking for the most intense games experiences, this is truly the year to own an Xbox 360 system,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of strategy and business development with Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business.
Coming up this fall, games for all tastes, from music games, to games for the entire family and, of course, 2008's blockbusters for all hardcore gamers out there.
Among the most anticipated titles, just in time for the holiday season, Microsoft promised “Guitar Hero World Tour” from RedOctane/Activision, with a newly designed guitar, electronic drum kit and microphone; “Rock Band 2” (exclusively on Xbox in September) from Harmonix/MTV Games; “Final Fantasy XIII” from Square Enix, a highly anticipated title this year; exclusive content for “Grand Theft Auto IV” and much more.
In terms of sales, Microsoft is already ahead of Sony, and if that wasn't enough, Don Mattrick, senior vice president for Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft , said during this year's E3 that “Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worlwide this generation than PlayStation 3.”
Sony on the other hand needs to catch up with Xbox, as figures have shown PS3 sold 6 million units less than the Xbox worldwide, and about half the number of Wiis.
