Microsoft’s gaming console, the Xbox 360, is up for updates. The gamins star “made” an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show. Microsoft officials delivered a keynote speech, in which they announced that the software of the console would undergo a series of cardinal changes. The modifications would enhance the gaming experience, the realistic touch and will enable users to navigate more easily through the console’s features. To denote the new characteristics, the new Xbox 360 environment was named New Xbox Experience.
The service will be launched in November, as sources have confirmed so far. Microsoft, however, only said it would be available before Christmas - the favorite period of the year for launching new products, in any field or domain.
The new features will be a bit difficult to intake for Xbox hardcore players, but Microsoft expects a full transition to take place in a short period of time. The most additions have been brought to the community part of the gaming experience. The new graphics allow a user to shuffle through options, like watching a movie or playing a game. The options are displayed in 3D, and they seem to be stretching beyond your screen. The old display mode merely had old-school pages.
The Xbox NXE will enable users to chose and customize their avatars – much like on Nintendo Mii or in Second Life. Another feature will allow players to interact more with their friends and game partners, using live voice chat or a texting service. Microsoft officials are a bit worried that Xbox veterans will frown upon the feature that may attract casual players, but are convinced that in the end the “party” feature will grow on them. The new design will also allow users to order game, game updates and many more Xbox-compatible products through the Internet, thus making Xbox a truly complete gaming experience.
In fact, this new update is just another step Microsoft’s new strategy to make their gaming console more appealing to the casual gamers. Earlier this year, Microsoft lowered the price of their console and there were reports that the sale have doubled since this decision.
So far, in the past few months, its direct rivals, Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PS3, constantly outsold Xbox 360.
