Microsoft has finally made public that it will slash $50 from its Xbox 360 Pro 20 GB model, but a new thing has just popped up: Microsoft also plans to discontinue the model. The company has also announced that it will release a new model that will have 60 GB of storage space and that will become available in August this year.
The new model will be sold at exactly the same price the Xbox 360 Pro model had, namely $349. According to company officials, Microsoft will release the product to satisfy people’s demands for more storage space. The company also tries to make the Xbox 360 gaming console a device that people would use to play music and watch HD video content. The former 20 GB model was able to store only about 4 hours of HD video content.
The fact that the Xbox 360 20 GB model will have its price trimmed before being discontinued shows two things about the company. One of them is that Microsoft puts a lot of faith in the 60 GB model, and that it plans to get rid of the 20 GB one as soon as possible.
The second one is that the company bets on creating a wider base of consoles on which its exclusive games could be played. While the Xbox 360 console has lagged behind its two competitors during the last months, the number of games that are bought for the console exceeds the one for the competition’s products.
