After introducing the Xbox 360 Elite, Microsoft’s Core Pack entered a cone of shadow and sales for it stalled, but Microsoft is apparently ready for a major rebranding.
At first, most analysts believed that the inception of Elite would mean the Core Pack’s demise, considering the lack of HDMI connectivity and other key features. However, recent posts on both Amazon and Toys R Us state that the Core Pack is to be rebranded under the name Xbox 360 Arcade, but its price will remain the same ($279.99). The new SKU will allegedly debut on October 25 (Toys R Us) and October 23 (Amazon.com).
Preorders for the Xbox 360 are apparently already in place at Amazon, and were (until people became aware of them) even at Toys R Us, and pictures clearly show that buyers will also get some of the top titles on Xbox Live Arcade, besides the regular wireless controller and a 256MB memory card (knowing that the Core Pack comes without the hard drive that is included in the Premium Pack and the Elite Pack).
The games we could spot on the box-art are UNO, Pac-Man, Boom-Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy and Luxor 2 and they’ll apparently be included on a single disc. The one thing that makes the Xbox 360 Arcade even more enticing is the potential introduction of the aforementioned HDMI port, but until official confirmation the news is to be taken with a grain of salt.
