‘X-Files’ To Make Screen Comeback Next Year

Ten years since the last "X-Files" movie, the highly anticipated sequel will finally get out there on July 25, 2008, Twentieth Century Fox announced on Wednesday.

According to a report in Variety, the second "X-Files" flick will be reuniting "X-Files" creator Chris Carter and David Duchovny, who is currently starring in "Californication" and Gillian Anderson, both set to reprise their signature roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Production for the movie is scheduled to kick off on December 10 based on a script Carter co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz, a veteran scribe of the long-running "X-Files" television series, which became a worldwide hit during its 1993-2002 run on the Fox network.

While Fox decided to shed a little light on their dates, details about the movie plot are being kept well under wraps. However, the little information which was revealed to the public is that the movie will find the complicated relationship between the two FBI agents developing in unexpected directions.

"All Chris says is that he wants to make a really scary horror, like a stand-alone episode," Anderson told Britain's Empire magazine last year regarding the upcoming movie. "I don't think they’re interested in touching on any of the conspiracy stuff."

As the show wrapped up in 2002 after a nine-year run, it left numerous fans disappointed as the story was left unfinished. In the interview, Anderson said that the movie sequel’s function isn’t to appease the hardcore fans. "I actually don’t have enough of a perspective to say whether questions were answered or whether it was wrapped up enough in the end, and honestly there’s part of me that doesn’t care. I can be sympathetic to die-hard fans who might feel left in short shrift, but that’s where my sympathies lie!"

When confirming his part in the movie earlier this year, Duchovny said he and Anderson were happy to do it and "At this point all of the kind of fatigue and anxiety that we had towards the end of a nine-year run is gone."

"We've forgotten why we hate one another and can only remember why we love one another and we're very happy to go back.," he joked, adding that Carter and Spotnitz, who will also produce the movie, have had the story for several years now.
