A startup storage company, called Fusion-io, managed to bring onboard one of the biggest names in the computer industry – Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder, who has become its chief scientist.
"Seldom have I seen technology advances that win in almost every way at the same time, in terms of speed, capacity, reliability, endurance, power usage and simplicity. The products from Fusion-io are extremely useful to so many different applications, not to mention most of the world’s servers," said Wozniak back in October 2008, when he joined the company’s advisory board.
Over the past three months, he took the decision to get more involved with the project and assume a direct hands-on position. He stated that he considers the company to be in the right place at the right time and that the revolutionary technological advances made will ”direct the history of technology into the 21st century and beyond.”
Fusion-io CEO David Flynn stated that it is a true pleasure to work alongside Wozniak and that they will work together on all aspects of the business.
Fusion-io is widely known for its high speed NAND flash technology, which targets enterprise configurations with its high price and extreme performance. Its ioDrive comes with 80 Giga Bytes, 160 GB or 320 GB of storage and uses high-speed flash memory. It has a write bandwidth of 500 MB/s a read bandwidth of 700 MB/s.
There are rumors about the company’s plans to soon release its technology to personal consumers, as the market has not been addressed until now and it would significantly boost its revenue.
