World Leaders Praised the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony

Foreign leaders present in Beijing for the Olympic Games have acclaimed abundantly the successful opening ceremony and China's assiduity for hosting good Games, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

During a meeting with his Chinese president Hu Jintao on Sunday, George W. Bush said the opening ceremony was "spectacular."

Bush added he had "fully enjoyed" the Games, and praised the Chinese side for its generous arrangements of various activities for himself and his family during their visit to Beijing.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said he admired the Chinese people for their achievement and contribution in organizing the Olympics.

Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo qualified the Games as a grand sports rally as well as a hard-won occasion for all countries to increase understanding and shared trust.

The opening ceremony on Friday night orchestrated by China's internationally recognized film director Zhang Yimou, used new technologies to bring symbols of Chinese culture and the Olympiad to attention.

Many foreign leaders and officials especially found the caldron illumination memorable. It was lit by Li Ning, Chinese gymnastics legend, after "space-walking" around the top of the 91,000-seat National Stadium.

"It's very well organized and displays China's traditional culture as well as high technologies," said President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung bak. "As an Asian, I'm proud of the success of the opening ceremony."

President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai said that the preparations and all the shaped facilities prove China's astounding capability and he believed the Beijing Games would be one of the most successful in the history of the Olympics.

According to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, after witnessing Beijing's achievements in hosting the Games the Brazilians are applying to host the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

More than 80 state leaders and government and royals participated at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.
