Hollywood just can’t and won’t stay away from the nation’s juiciest gossip, the adventures of unmarried teenage mother-to-be Bristol Palin. After Lindsay Lohan, of all people, was the firs star to meddle in the country’s politics by writing her opinions on the matter on her Myspace blog, it’s time for another celebrity twist for the otherwise pretty common, though unfortunate situation of teenage motherhood.

No other than the former teenage mother of the year, now left-out-of-the-spotlight Jamie Lynn Spears made the news yesterday with rumors that she supposedly sent a gift basket to Bristol Palin.

The story was sustained by the owner of the Beverly Hills baby store Petit Tresor, where the present was allegedly ordered via phone, by celebrity mother Lynne Spears, who stated: “It was ordered by phone, and they asked what could be done for under $100. They spent $60 on pink burp cloths.” Just to make things more interesting, the present was said to have a card that showed Jamie Lynn’s support for the mother-to-be: “Dear Bristol, Hang in there! XXOO, Jamie Lynn Spears.”

So everyone figured why would somebody make up such a story? So probably Britney’s sister did send a basket.

But she didn’t. All rumors were infirmed the next day by the Spears family. "I just got off the phone with Lynne. I can tell you that she hasn't sent her any gifts, but that she does support Sarah and, of course, can empathize with their situation," says Curt Handling, Spears' publicist at the Thomas Nelson publishing company, as quoted by E! News.

We’re all curious about the headlines, as it may turn out that the basket was sent after all or that Jamie Lynn is not who she says she is or that the basket is not what it appears to be and God only knows what.
