Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”

The release of the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona might mark a new success on Woody Allen’s hit list, as the comedy includes two of the ingredients that provide a massive public appeal: a carefully chosen attractive and talented cast and a fresh and gorgeous setting.

Mr. Woody Allen started the project with the location, which is the beautiful city of Barcelona and then contacted Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson to take part in the project.

The story presents Vicky, played by Rebecca Hall, going to Spain for the summer with her friend Cristina, played by Scarlett Johansson. The two have a quiet and relaxing stay until they meet Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), a gorgeous and charismatic painter. He invites the girls to spend a weekend with him in Oviedo and they gladly agree to the trip. Looking to stir things up even more, the director adds another character into the mix, with Penelope Cruz playing María Elena, Juan Antonio’s emotional and intense ex-wife.

From this point on the viewers will get the chance to take their guess on the many love triangles possibilities.

The crew also includes Chris Messina, Patricia Clarkson, Kevin Dunn, Julio Perillan and Juan Quesada.

The movie mainly received positive reviews, as it provides the story of a rather plausible real-life summer vacation tale that some maybe experienced and many would definitely want to experience.

The official release date was yesterday, August 15 and over the next few weeks will hit the theaters worldwide, offering a 96 minute-long enjoyable experience.

According to the estimates released by BoxOfficeMojo.com for Friday, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” earned $1,100,000 in ticket sales, after it was released in 692 theaters.

The Woody Allen’s latest work was also well received by the movie critics. According to Metacritic.com, the movie earned 70 points out of 100, based on 33 reviews.

RottenTomatoes.com is listing a 79 percent score for the movie, compiled from 97 reviews.
