The Target World Challenge on Sunday brought yet another
title to the already three-time winner Tiger Woods, and the eight this season
for the world number one. The off-season tournament hosted by Woods brings
together the defending champion, the top eleven players according to the
Official World Golf rankings, and four guests chosen by the Tiger Woods
Foundation.
Finishing at 22-under-par 226, Woods matches David Love III’s
tournament record and ends an “incredible” week as the winner himself
described it. Seven shots behind the winner, Masters Champion Zach Johnson came
second, finishing at 15-under-par 273, followed by Jim Furyk, who finished
third at 13-under-par 275.
“Jimmy put just a ton of heat on me on that front nine. The whole
tournament basically switched at the 10th hole. It looked like if I miss my
putt and he makes it, it’s a one-shot lead with eight to go and anything can
happen. All of sudden it was a big two-shot swing there,” said Woods.
Coming after a 10-week break, Woods ended up first once
more: "I just managed my game real well and made some putts this week,
which was nice. I wasn't able to hit the ball consistently like I wanted to,
but I putted well for all four days and that also makes up for a lot of
sins."
His time off did not hurt his game, and, as Colin
Montgomerie said: "Doesn't help us, does it? If he took a bloody year off,
it would help. Never mind 10 weeks."
The $1.35 million awarded to the Tournament winner will be
donated to the Tiger Woods Foundation, who was first started in 1996 together
with his father, Earl Woods. The children-oriented foundation creates health
and educational programs, such as Tiger Woods Learning center, Start Something
or Tiger Jam.
