The Mercedes-Benz Championship that
starts today in Hawaii is said to reveal a stronger-than-ever Tiger Woods, who
already won the Target World Challenge – a charitable event organized by him - at the end of 2007.
Tiger made a remarkable comeback
after the 10 week break, and is expected to set more records as the new 2008
PGA Tour season sets in. The recent year was a profitable one for the World No.
1, who already won 13 major titles in his career, and the youngest golf player
to ever succeed in having such an amazing resume.
Steve Williams said in an
Associated Press Interview that the 2007 Target World Challenge was Woods’ best
moment and that “he’s in more control of his shots. I wouldn’t even compare the
years because they’re so vastly different in the way he plays, the way he
manages his game, his course strategy. He’s more equipped now.”
Last year’s seven-time winner
said: I just can’t wait until the season
starts. Obviously, I’ve got a lot of rooms for improvement, which is great fun.
My bad shots aren’t as bad as they used to be. I just miss fairways or I just
miss greens, but obviously not off the planet like they used to be. Just imagine
if I could hit the ball the way I wanted to.”
For the time being, he is in a
better shape than ever, and his adversaries will have a lot to put up with, if
they want to stand a chance to any title this year. Phil Mickelson is restless
and ready to take advantage at Woods’ slightest mistakes.
