Woman Walks Children on I-495, Murder-Suicide

A woman with a brief history of mental illness walked with her niece and nephew on Interstate 495 last week and took them with her as she killer her self. Her deed was ruled as a double-murder and suicide. Authorities said that before walking into the crazy traffic and leading the children to death, the woman took her close off and undressed the two infants as well.

The two kids were identified as Kaleigh Lambert, 6, and her brother, Shane Lambert, 4. They were hit by two cars last Friday at 9 p.m., the DA’s office announced this afternoon.

The autopsy report made by he state’s Chief Medical Examiner’s office ruled the deaths to be “homicide/suicide by blunt force trauma as a result of the motor vehicle collisions.”

The 39-year-old aunt identified as Marcelle “Marci” Thibault, of Bellingham, first drove across the median strip of the highway and began driving against oncoming traffic. Then she stopped her car on the grass off the right side of Interstate 495 in Lowelland and walked with the kids onto the highway.

After she stripped the children and herself, Thibault took them in her arms and walked into traffic. They were hit twice by the oncoming traffic, once in the “right or middle lane” and again “in the left lane” by two motorists traveling on I-495 north. The drivers are not facing charges.

“Based on our investigation, we believe that Ms. Thibault took her niece and nephew and walked with them into oncoming traffic on Route 495, tragically resulting in the deaths of the two young children while taking her own life in the process,” Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said today.

The burial of the three victims was officiated this week. the two children were buried yesterday following a funeral Mass in North Reading.

"The facts of this matter make it a truly heart-wrenching case, with troubling and very difficult findings. We want to offer our deepest condolences to the parents of Kaleigh and Shane, as well as the husband of Ms. Thibault, and all family members," District Attorney Gerry Leone said in a statement.
