Even if retailers like 7-Eleven have been selling copies of World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King for several days, gamers still had to wait for the World of Warcraft creator Blizzard Entertainment to release the game’s expansion pack. On Wednesday, the company changed its plans, letting everyone in the U.S. access the Wrath of the Lich King expansion content at 9 p.m. They’ve done this in order to prevent the frustration of the customers who should have waited until midnight in their respective time zones. A small contingent of upset subscribers thought the arrangement was unfair and, therefore, Blizzard released the pack earlier, not before Blizzard poster Zarhym sarcastically replied in response to complaints on the officials forums: “We’re working to ensure the sun reaches all areas of the world at the same time of the day and plan to have this corrected in a future patch.”

World of Warcraft Insider notes that there’s already a bug that prevents players from creating characters in the new Death Knight class on European servers. As a temporary solution, Blizzard recommends users to create a fresh, level-one character, and then attempt to make a Death Knight. Of course, this won’t remain the single bug in the post-launch weeks ahead. Gamers were very anxious and in London, for example, 2,000 people lined up at the Oxford Street HMV, where Blizzard representative Paul Sams autographed copies of the game. An HMV spokesperson said the turnout was the largest the store had ever seen.

The launch of the Lich King, which features a frozen enemy and throngs of undead for WoW players to fight, was responsible for freezing up GameStop’s credit card readers. Because of the large number of credit card requests, the retailer’s credit system buckled under the weight. Unfortunately for them, customers from Las Vegas, Kansas City, Madison and Fargo were turned away because of this issue.
