A semi-truck hit a school bus Friday afternoon in Salem,
Wisconsin. The accident caused injuries to about 14 children, reported the
Chicago Tribune.
Kenosha County sheriff's officials said that the school bus
had stopped to drop one of the kids, when a semi crashed into the back of the
bus. The children were from Wheatland Center Grade School aged between 6 and 13.
Lt. Paul Falduto, a sheriff's spokesman said that two of the
children from the bus were seriously hurt and they were transported in
Milwaukee to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
The semi-truck driver had no life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The police interrogated him Friday evening
and they said that the 51-year-old driver was probably drinking from a soda can
when the accident took place. The 18-wheel semi truck was the property of Versicold
Cascade DBA Wisconsin Logistics.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the crash happened around
3:45 p.m on Highway 50 near County Trunk Highway B. The traffic in the area was
closed.
The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department, assisted by the Wisconsin
State Patrol, was set to investigate the accident scene. To find out more
information, they were questioning both drivers and some witnesses as well. No
charges have been filled yet as the investigation isn’t over.
