The beloved children's character Winnie the Pooh is ready to return on the bookshelves after more than 80 years from his first literary appearance.
The Bear of Very Little Brain will make his comeback in Return to the Hundred Acre Wood on the 5th of October, which reflects the idea that whatever happens nothing will stop a little boy and a bear from playing, as the author, David Benedictus said; so honey lovers better hide their honey pots. The Associated Press reported that the great comeback will take place within the first authorized sequel to Milne's original 1920s stories.
AA Milne's collection of stories was first published in 1926. The adventures of Christopher Robin, Pooh Bear and their band of loyal forest friends have been firmly fixed in the imagination of British children and continued to delight them for the next 80 years. Throughout these decades, the book has been translated into 50 languages and turned into a major Disney franchise.
It shall be interesting though to discover what Benedictus’ older Christopher character will be like, but the author said that the contents of the book were carefully guarded secret. He also worked on audio CD adaptations of Winnie the Pooh stories with actress Judi Dench, before turning his hand to the sequel. According to British Egmont Publishing, the new book will follow Milne's Winnie the Pooh format and by 2009’s Christmas it is expected to turn into a hit. In the United States, "Return to the Hundred Acre Wood" shall be published by Penguin imprint Dutton Children's Books.
The illustrations will be provided by Mark Burgess, who has already drawn classic children's characters including Paddington Bear and Winnie-the-Pooh.
